Getting Ready for Uganda Again - December 2011
MIST Report for December 2011
Family
This month has been less full of sports and concerts than the last couple but it has still been busy. One of the major tasks has been getting all the college applications and preliminary audition forms and CDs (or mp3s, or other electronic version of their playing) for Karen and Esther submitted. Karen is applying to four colleges and Ester is applying to two and the preliminary audition requirements are different for each one. So after several late nights and lots of time spent on the computer (mostly their time and late nights but also some from me) their applications and audition materials are all submitted. The next step is the final auditions for them at all the schools to which they are applying. That will come in the spring next year.
Our son Neil is applying for graduate school in Trumpet Performance. His real love in music is performance—he loves playing and performing on the trumpet. More training and practice should help him in playing better and finding a job in trumpet performance.
For John and Eric, there are no new major events. They are on track to finish college at the end of this school year, if all goes well.
The youth orchestra that Karen and Esther play in had a concert in November. It was an excellent concert. We also heard John play in his college’s Christmas concert, a long running tradition that includes all of the major musical group, vocal and instrumental. That was a wonderful celebration of the birth of Christ. Our church will also be presenting a Christmas concert this weekend. It is always good and the gospel is presented at every concert in both the words of the music and the words the pastor shares.
Work
In the last month, I have worked on getting Mark ready for checking with Sarah. I was able to get chapters 8 through 12 ready, with only four chapters left to prepare. Sarah and I completed the exegetical check of Mark 4 and 5 this month. Sarah has been working on the rough draft of Galatians and is close to completing the book.
I did not make much progress on the instructions for checking the dictionary for Dot. I need to finish that up this month if at all possible.
I did not need to do much with the Uganda Luke Partnership Project (LPP), but during the rest of December I need to get ready to go back to Uganda for about three and a half weeks, leaving on December 30th and returning on January 26th. This will be the third translation workshop in which we (a group of about 8 consultants and facilitators) are training mother tongue translators (MTT) to translate the book of Luke in their own mother tongue languages. After this workshop, there will be two more in 2012 and three more in 2013.
Plans
- Finish the exegetical check of at least two more chapters (6 and 7) of Mark
- Finish preparing Mark for checking with Sarah
- Finish the instructions for editing the dictionary for Dot
Praise
- For the progress we made this month on checking Mark
- For being able to worship through so many things including music
- For Christ, whose birth we celebrate this month and for him dying on the cross for our sins
Prayer
- For good success on the trip to Uganda
- For much work to be done on Mark this month
- For the Good News of Jesus Christ to reach many people this Christmas season
Thank you for your prayers and encouragement.
