Home ::
We've been in the Netherlands for six years now and we've had times when we felt restless and a need to "move on". But several avenues that we have looked at have been closed off. So we are waiting on the Lord and enjoying the time and mission we have here. We certainly enjoyed the last warm and sunny days of the year by the sea and were still able to take a dip in the water (well the kids did anyway!) into October. We just picked our grapes and have a large store to snack on. A Turkish lady came to our door during the summer to ask if she could take some vine leaves for cooking. Amber had her in for coffee and was able to help her with the national requirements placed on her for integrating into society. Pray that Amber will be able to develop ongoing friendship with her.Atlantic Bridge ::
Two interns are now here, living in the AB Center around the corner from us. Anke is from Germany and Monika is from Czech Republic. They have started coming to our home weekly for dinner. They are lovely, hardworking girls with a willingness to serve; and it's been fun getting to know them. Amber will be Anke's mentor for the year that she is here. Please pray for openness and a good relationship. The girls will be joined by three more interns in December.A couple of weeks ago Atlantic Bridge organised the yearly "garden party" which, due to rain, was held inside. Supporters and friends of Atlantic Bridge were invited to hear about the happenings of this last year. It was a great time of hearing about God's faithfulness and work in lives of young people and a time of fellowshipping together and eating delicious food (we contributed home-made southern USA pulled pork and a couple of salads).
Rip is part of a team that is going to Czech Republic for 10 days in November. He is really looking forward to that. The team have started meeting and rehearsing together since they will perform a short piece of interactive drama in English classes at a number of schools throughout the region. They will try it out at a local school prior to the trip. They have a number of contacts lined up and hope to spark the formation of several new Bridgebuilders groups through their interaction with students. Atlantic Bridge is focussing on the region of North Bohemia (northern Czech Republic and part of Germany for its current three-year plan (2011-2013). Youth group exchanges and mission trips will target this region more than others we have been involved in.
Speaking Volumes ::
Recently Rip began working closely with two Christian professionals as partners in a new collaborative venture. Currently one is based in UAE and one in the near east. Rip is excited about this answer to prayer, and looks forward to sharing more in the months to come. They are developing their plan and will be able to offer broader services than each could do alone; it is great to be part of a complementary team with each member having strengths to lend the others. Rip also wants to develop knowledge and skills in the areas of Information Architecture and Content Strategy, which is important as the sheer amount of information we produce or have access to grows exponentially by the day. Atlantic Bridge has 20 years worth of material that should be structured and accessible.Our special Computer Fund Project is set up to cover our need of a new ministry computer. If you would like to participate with us and give toward this need, you can use the giving form on IGO's Giving Page (which is processed safely through IGO's PayPal account). Then choose "SV Computer Need" from gift allocation choices. Thank you!
